A case-control study on the association of bullous pemphigoid and internal diseases
Abstract:Objective To study the associations ofbullous pemphigoid(BP) and selected internal diseases. Methods The clinical data of 48 BP and 62 patients with other skin diseases in Shaanxi Provincial People's Hospital during January 2010 to March 2017 were collected and analyzed by retrospective case-control method. Results The incidence of neurological diseases in BP group(43.8%) was higher than that in non-BP group(19.4%,P<0.05).Logistic regression analysis showed that the patients with neurologic diseases were at the risk of BP occurrence than the patients without neurologic diseases(OR=3.89,95,CI:l.51 to 10.05,P=0.004).The nervous system diseases in BP patients are mainly cerebral stroke, dementia, cerebral hemorrhage and Parkinson's disease. Conclusion Our results indicate that neurological disease and stroke are major risk factors for BP patients, and BP is associated with the severity of neurologic diseases.A holistic approach for patient care, including screening for neurologic diseases and control of comorbidities, should be practised since bullous pemphigoid may affect more than just the skin.
