A case of malignant syphilis complicated with AIDS

Abstract:A 30-year-old unmarried male patient presented with multiple deep ulcers of different sizes for 3 months. Histopathological examination: spinous layer edema, irregular thickening, lymphocytes, plasma cells and a small amount of eosinophils infiltrated around the superficial dermal vessels, erythrocyte extravasation, endothelial swelling. Laboratory examination: Treponema pallidum gelatin particle agglutination test (TPPA) was positive; rapid plasma reagin test (RPR) 1:128; HIV antibody screening and confirmatory tests were positive. Diagnosis: malignant syphilis complicated with AIDS. All the ulcers healed after 4 weeks of treatment, and the dark red scars were visible. The result of the RPR reexamination was 1:8.
