Abstract:Objective To understand the morbidity of asymptomatic neurosyphilis after the treatment with benzathine penicillin. Methods By testing cerebrospinal fluid of 490 syphilis cases of serum recurrence or fixation, who have been treated with benzathine penicillin, to analyze the prevalence of asymptomatic neurosyphilis. Results It showed that though full benzathine penicillin treatment or even repeated treatment had been used on these 490 cases of syphilitics, there were still 46 patients showed abnormal cerebrospinal fluid without any clinical symptoms. Conclusion During the follow-up of syphilis, according to the phenomenons like serum recurrence and serum titer standing or declining slowly, it is necessary to examine cerebrospinal fluid timely to reduce the occurrence of neurosyphilis.
