Clinical efficacy of fractional intense pulsed light (FPL) in the treatment of melasma and postinflammatory hyperpigmentation
Abstract:Objective To observe and discuss the effects of fractional intense pulsed light (FPL) in the treatment of melasma and postinflammatory pigmentation. Methods FPL was utilized for the treatment of melasma and postinflammatory pigmentation, with a filter of 560 nm, 2~3 pulses of 2~3 ms, energy density 12~20 J/cm2. The patients received treatment per four weeks, and one course included 3~5 treatments. Images of the patients collected before every treatment, and the data was analysed and evaluated. The badness reaction, the recurrence rate and satisfaction of the patients were added up. Results After treatment of FPL, absolute scores and mMASI score in the melasma patients decreased significantly. The efficacy rate in treating postinflammatory pigmentation was 93.85%. The overall recurrence rate was 5.4%, the incidence of adverse reactions such as burning or pain was 14.7%, and the total satisfaction rate was 92.7%. Conclusion FPL can be used in the treatment of melasma and postinflammatory pigmentation, which may improve skin appearance.
