Abstract:Sensitive skin is a clinical syndrome defined by the occurrence of unpleasant sensations (stinging, burning, pain, pruritus, and tingling sensation) in response to normal stimuli. Sensitive skin can affect all body locations, commonly the young female face. Recent years, the incidence and social attention of this syndrome is increasing. Many endogenous and exogenous factors can induce unpleasant symptoms, which affects the patients' quality of life. The possible pathogenesis of sensitive skin includes disturbed barrier, neurogenic inflammation and related immune cells. This review summarizes current knowledge on the epidemiology, pathogenosis, diagnosis and therapy of sensitive skin.
