A case of hydroxyurea-induced ulcers in legs

Abstract:A case of hydroxyurea-induced ulcers in legs in a patient with essential thrombocythemia is reported. An 82-year-old female patient had been treated with hydroxyurea for 15 years because of essential thrombocythemia. The patient presented with ulcers in legs for 5 years. Physical examination showed multiple shallow ulcers in bilateral primal ankle regions, accompanied with reticular hypopigmentation and swelling of the surrounding skin. Diagnosis: hydroxyurea-induced ulcers in legs, essential thrombocythemia. The ulcers achieved regression with atrophie blanche after ibuprofen and moxifloxacin were prescribed, as well as the mixed solution of physiological saline, amikacin and dexamethasone was topically applied.
