Abstract:Objective To investigate the clinical and pathological features of dermatofibrosarcoma protuberans (DFSP) so as to reduce the misdiagnosis rate and provide reference for diagnosis and treatment of the disease. Methods The clinical datas of 30 cases that had been diagnosed as DFSP were collected and analyzed. Results Male to female ratio was 1:1 and the average age was 40.97±18.8 y. About 80% cases had been misdiagnosed early. Histologic examination showed that spindle-shaped cells arranged in a storiform pattern. The results of immunohistochemical staining adopted in this study included: CD34(+), vimentin(+), SMA(-) and S-100(-). Treatment options included performing local surgical excision in 16 cases, with 10 cases relapsed (62.5%), and performing extensive resection in the other 14 cases, with 2 cases relapsed(14.3%) Conclusion Clinical histopathological and immunohistochemical examination maybe reduce the clinical misdiagnosis rate of DFSP, and standard surgical treatment of the disease is important. In order to reduce the recurrence rate of the disease, further studies are required to investigate the new adjuvant therapies.
