A study of the influence of metabolic syndrome on the treatment of psoriasis vulgaris and the underlying mechanism
Abstract:Objective To explore the influence of metabolic syndrome(MS) on the treatment of psoriasis and the underlying mechanisms. Methods A total of 72 patients with psoriasis were enrolled in the study and 34 of the patients combined with metabolic syndrome. All the patients received NB-UVB treatment combined with Calcipotriol ointment and Halometasone ointment for 12 weeks. Psoriasis area severity index (PASI) was used to evaluate the severity of psoriasis. Enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA) was performed to determine the serum levels of IL-17. Results After 12 weeks of treatment, PASI score of the patients with MS changed less significantly compared with the patients without MS. Patients with MS showed less reduction in the level of IL-17. Conclusion Metabolic syndrome may affect the efficacy of treatment in psoriasis, the mechanism of which may be the retaining of inflammatory cytokine in serum partly caused by metabolic syndrome.
