Abstract:Objective To investigate the alteration of Langerhans cells (LCs) in local lesions of Condyloma Acuminatum(CA) patients around PDT. Methods The CD1a staining in 15 specimens of CA before and after the PDT was evaluated by immunohistochemical technique, as well as 5 positive controls. The morphology changes of LCs were observed through high power lens. Results The alteration of Langerhans cells in local lesions of CA patients around PDT including: histopathological study showed far fewer LCs in all CA lesions(P<0.01) compared with normal controls (18.8 ± 4.0 / highpower field); the dendritic structure of LCs reduced, shortened or even completely disappeared; atypical LCs without distinctive dendritic structure were detected in the dermis in some specimens; the number of LCs instantly after PDT (9.2±2.0/highpower field) was remarkable higher than the level before the treatment (6.2±1.8 /highpower field)(P<0.05). Meanwhile, 7 days after the treatment, the number of LCs (6.4±1.1/highpower field) declined approaching to the level before the PDT(P>0.05, without statistic difference). Conclusion The cellular immunity was impaired in CA lesions. The PDT could improve the local immune state through modifying the characteristics of LCs, which might act as an immunologic regulator in the cure of CA.
