Abstract:Objective To investigate the efficacy of 5-aminolaevulinic acid-photodynamic therapy(ALA-PDT) on cutaneous tumors. Methods ALA-PDT was adopted to treat 27 patients with cutaneous tumors, including 5 patients with keratoacanthoma, 12 patients with actinic keratosis, 6 patients with Bowen′s disease, 2 patients with erythroplasia of Queyrat, 1 patient with verrucous carcinoma, 1 patient with squamous cell carcinoma. Results The clearance was achieved in 5 patients with keratoacanthoma, 11patients with actinic keratosis, 5 patients with Bowen′s disease, 2 patients with erythroplasia of Queyrat and 1 patient with squamous cell carcinoma. No response occurred in verrucous carcinoma. Except for 1 patient with actinic keratosis and the patient with squamous cell carcinoma, there were no other patients had recurrence. Conclusion Topical ALA-PDT is an effective, safe therapy with minor trauma, excellent cosmetic results and low recurrent rates for part of cutaneous tumors, which is a good alternative for patients with large lesions on special sites. But the effect may be not satisfied in verrucous carcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma.
