Meta-analysis of efifcacy and safety of liquid nitrogen cryotherapy in the treatment of plantar warts
Abstract:Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of cryotherapy in the treatment of plantar warts. Methods PubMed, OVID, Cochrane, Central Register of Controlled Trials, CBM and CJFD were searched, from the beginning to January 2016. The language was confined to English and Chinese. The retrieved randomized controlled trials(RCTs) were screened out according to the predeifned inclusion criteria, the quality of the included studies were evaluated, and Meta-analysis was performed with RevMan5.1 software. Results Sixteen RCTs, 21 pairs of data, a total of 1616 patients were included in the comparison, the results showed that the overall efifcacy of cryotherapy group was lower than the control groups. In the treatment course of 1 to 2 months and more than 2 months, the efifcacy of cryotherapy group was lower than the control. The therapeutic effect of cryotherapy group was lower than physical therapy group, CO2 laser group, intradermal injection group, Bleomycin A5 intradermal injection group and oral medication (retinoic acid) group. There were varied side effects occurred in the treatment process by different therapeutic means, and the occurrence of serious side effects was rare. Conclusion Meta-analysis showed that cryotherapy was less effective than other therapies. There are certain side effects in various treatments, but few serious adverse reactions had been encountered.
