Clinical efifcacy of topical 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy combined with glycolic acids for moderate to severe acne
Abstract:Objective To study the efifcacy and the safety of 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy(ALA-PDT) combined with glycolic acids for moderate to severe facial acne. Methods Fifty-two patients with moderate to severe facial acne were divided into two groups randomly:25 patients in the treatment group were treated once per week for 2 weeks by ALA-PDT, then were treated once every 14 days for two successions by glycolic acid;while 27 patients in the control group were treated with ALA-PDT therapy once per week for 2 weeks. The efifcacy and side effects were evaluated after 2 weeks, 4 weeks and 8 weeks. Results The effective rate of the treatment group was signiifcantly higher than that of the control group at the 8 weeks (P<0.05), while there was no signiifcant difference at the 2 weeks and 4 weeks (P>0.05). Conclusion The 5-aminolevulinic acid photodynamic therapy combined with glycolic acids is a safe and effective method for moderate to severe facial acne.
