Abstract:ObjectiveTo study the effects and safety of terbinaifne hydrochloride cream in the treatment of facial seborrheic dermatitis. MethodsTotal 78 patients suffering from facial seborrheic dermatitis were randomly divided into therapy group and control group, with 39 cases in each group. The patients in therapy group were applied a small amount of terbinaifne hydrochloride cream evenly to skin lesions on face twice a day, whereas those in control group were applied compound econazole gel twice a day. The total therapy period of two groups was 4 weeks with subsequent visit every 2 weeks for the purpose of observation and evaluating the therapy effects and adverse effects. One month after the treatment, all patients were arranged a follow-up visit.ResultsThe symptom scores after the 2-week and 4-week therapy decreased remarkably compared to those before the treatment in both groups with statistical signiifcance (P<0.01). The total effective rates of therapy group and control group were 71.8% and 76.9% respectively after 2-week treatment, whereas those were 79.5% and 84.6% after 4-week treatment. In either time point, there were no statistical signiifcance between the two groups (P>0.05). In addition, the quantities of malassezia in two groups were decreased significantly after 4-weeks treatment compared with that before the treatment, and the quantities of malassezia in treatment group were obviously less than that in control group. The follow-up visit results showed that the recurrence rate of therapy group was 7.7%, which was obviously lower than 43.8% of control group with statistical signiifcance (P<0.05). The incidences of adverse reactions were 10.3% and 30.8% in therapy group and control group respectively with statistical significance (P<0.05).ConclusionTreatment of both terbinafine hydrochloride cream and compound econazole gel have satisfactory effects on facial seborrheic dermatitis, but the recurrence rate of the former is signiifcantly lower than that of the latter, meanwhile without any adverse effects caused by corticosteroids cream.
