Application of confocal laser scanning microscopy in the diagnosis of atypical syringoma
Abstract:ObjectiveTo investigate the value of confocal laser scanning microscopy in the diagnosis of atypical syringoma. MethodsTwenty-four cases that clinically diagnosed as lfat wart or seborrheic keratosis, but could not to exclude the diagnosis of syringoma, were enrolled in this study. The selected skin lesion of all the patients were examined by confocal laser scanning microscopy, and then by histopathologic examination.ResultsThe image showed that the epidermis was roughly normal. There was round and ovoid high index structure in shallow or middle dermis, which was consistent with histopathological findings. Histopathology showed that the epidermis was normal, there were catheters, small cysts and small cell nests and cables composed by epithelial cells in the intradermal, which was consistent with the image of a high refractive structure.ConclusionCLSM is helpful to distinguish syringoma, lfat wart and seborrheic keratosis.
