Clinical and histopathological analysis of 7 cases of lichen striatus in adults
Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical and histopathological characteristics of lichen striatus in adults. Methods A retrospective analysis of 7 cases of lichen striatus in adults was carried out. Results The mean age of the cases(1male and 6 female) was 39.1years(ranging from 20 to 61years). Five patients had lesions on the trunk and neck, 2 on the extremities. All lesions located on the left in 4 cases, right in 3 cases. Clinically, lichen striatus presented with erythematous or brownish papules with a flattened surface that were frequently scaly in appearance and formed a linear distribution following Blaschko’s lines, sometimes accompanied by pigmentation. Pathologically, almost all the sections showed focal interface dermatitis or lichenoid patterns at the dermal-epidermal junction with lymphocytic infiltrate around either eccrine glands or hair follicles. Conclusion Lichen striatus in adults is rare in practice. Comprehensive analysis of the clinical manifestations and histopathological changes is the key of making a correct diagnosis.
