Clinical observation and nursing of senile herpes zoster patients treated by integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine

Abstract:Objective To explore the therapeutic effect and nursing measures of integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine for senile herpes zoster. Method Total 128 elder herpes zoster patients hospitalized in our department from Nov. 2012 to Apr. 2014 were enrolled. The treatment protocols based on conventional western medicine means including antiviral, neurotrophic agents, relieving pain and physical therapy, combined with traditional Chinese medicine acupuncture and cupping therapy, as well as corresponding special nursing. The clinical efifcacy and symptom of pain of these patients were evaluated before hospitalization, on the day of discharge and 6 months after their discharge respectively. Result On the day of discharge, 93 cases achieved clinical cure and 30 cases evaluated to be effective, the total effective rate was 98%. Follow up 6 months, postherpetic neuralgia occurred in 5 patients. Conculsion For treating elder herpes zoster patients by integrated traditional Chinese medicine and western medicine and the special nursing technique, the clinical effect was obvious and the incidence of postherpetic neuralgia was very low.
