Efifcacy of oral tranexamic acid combined with low-lfuence 1064 nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of melasma
Abstract:ObjectiveTo evaluate the efficacy and safety of oral tranexamic acid (TA) combined with low-fluence 1064nm Q-switched Nd:YAG laser in the treatment of melasma. MethodsFifty-seven patients with melasma were enrolled in the study and randomly divided into two groups: a combination group and a laser treatment group. All the patients were treated with low-lfuence Nd:YAG laser, meanwhile TA was taken orally by the patients in the combination group lasted for 12 weeks. The degree of improvement in pigmentation was reassessed on 4, 8 and 12 weeks after treatment by melasma area severity index (MASI) scores. Side-effects, if any, were also recorded.ResultsThe MASI scores were decreased with the process of the treatment. Two groups showed signiifcant difference on 8 and 12 weeks after treatment (P<0.05). No serious adverse effects had been found.ConclusionOral TA in combination with low-lfuence Nd:YAG laser may be a safe and efifcient treatment option for melasma.
