Application of antifungal drugs in the treatment of cutaneous and mucocutaneous leishmaniasis
Abstract:Leishmaniasis is zoonotic disease caused byLeishmania with different clinical manifestations. It can be characterized into three clinical types: visceral leishmaniasis, mucocutaneous leishmaniasis and cutaneous leishmaniasis. Traditionally, antimony is the ifrst-line treatment for leishmaniasis, but its application is compromised due to the high adverse effects and the emergence of drug resistantLeishmania isolates. Clinical researches have shown that amphotericin B can be used in patients infected by antimony resistant isolates, and treatment of azole and propylene amine can also be effective and safe. Through the analysis of the components inLeishmania membrane, this article further illustrates the mechanism, usage and efifcacy of antifungal agents in the treatment of leishmaniasis.
