Single follicular unit hair transplantation for the treatment of eyebrow area vitiligo

Abstract：Objective To explore the effect of single follicular unit hair transplantation for the treatment of eyebrow area vitiligo. Methods A retrospective study was performed on 21 eyebrow area vitiligo cases managed with single follicular unit hair transplantation from July 2012 to August 2013 in our department. Results After half, 2.5 years of follow up, peri-follicular repigmentation around the grafted eyebrow was observed in 18 patients(85.7%) within 4 to 8 weeks. The diameter of the spreading pigmentation ranged from 3 to12 mm during a 6-month follow-up period. Transformation of de-pigmented eyebrow into pigmented ones occurred in 6 patients. Conclusion Single follicular unit hair transplantation appears to be an effective method for treating eyebrow area vitiligo, it can not only make peri-follicular skin around the grafted eyebrow repigment but also eyebrow.
