Abstract:A substantial proportion of patients with syphilis who have not achieved the desired serological response and remain serofast represent a clinical challenge. To date, little is known about the exact mechanism of serological serofast. The epidemiologic analyses demonstrate serological cure or serofast state is associated with disease phase, gender, baseline RPR titers and the drug used. The immunological features of serofast state include disorder of cellar immunity and immunosuppression. Whether the serofast condition represents persistent infection of spirochetes or variability in host immune response against. Treponema pallidum is unknown. Improved understanding of the pathogenic mechanisms of the serofast condition will certainly aid in the optimal management of serofast patients.
