Long-pulsed 1064 nm Nd:YAG laser versus CO2 laser and liquid nitrogen cryosurgery in the treatment of granuloma pyogenicum
Abstract:Objective To compare the clinical efifcacy and safety of Nd:YAG laser with CO2 laser and liquid nitrogen cryosurgery in the treatment of granuloma pyogenicum. Methods One hundred and thirty-seven cases with granuloma pyogenicum were divided into three groups, and were treated with long-pulsed Nd:YAG laser (Group A, 46 cases), CO2 laser (Group B, 46 cases) and liquid nitrogen cryosurgery (Group C, 45 cases), respectively. Efifcacy and safety evaluations were carried out 6 months after treatment. Results The cure rates after one treatment session were 86.9%, 78.3%and 57.8%in group A, B and C, respectively. The total cure rates in group A, B and C were 100%, 86.9%and 97.7%, respectively. The incidence of adverse events was 4.3%, 15.2%and 13.3%in group A, B and C respectively. All the three treatments were safe and effective in the treatment of granuloma pyogenicum, however, Nd:YAG laser treatment was the best when concerning about the total cure rate the cure rates after one treatment. There was no statistically signiifcant difference adverse reactions. Conclusion Nd:YAG laser treatment was an effective and safe method for the treatment of granuloma pyogenicum, which could be use as a ifrst-line choice.
