Clinical efifcacy of tacrolimus ointment 0.1%in the treatment of facial seborrheic dermatitis

Abstract:Objective To investigate the efifcacy and safety of topical application of tacrolimus ointment 0.1%in the treatment of facial seborrheic dermatitis. Methods Forty four patients were enrolled in a 8-week study and treated with topical application of tacrolimus ointment 0.1%twice daily to symptomatic regions for four weeks, and then twice weekly for the following four weeks. The severity of facial seborrheic dermatitis and the adverse events were evaluated and recorded at the baseline, week 4 and the end of the study. Results The average severity score of the seborrheic dermatitis showed a signiifcant decrease from the baseline to week 4 (P<0.05), but there was no difference between that of the week 4 and week 8 (P>0.05). The adverse events were slight and tolerable. Conclusion Tacrolimus ointment 0.1%may be an effective and safe treatment choice for patients with facial seborrheic dermatitis.
