Abstract:Objective To evaluate the clinical efficacy and aesthetic outcomes of kite-shaped flaps utilizing the superficial mus-culoaponeurotic system(SMAS)as a vascular pedicle for the reconstruction of nasal ala and adjacent soft tissue defects. Methods This retrospective study analyzed 36 cases of nasal alar and adjacent soft tissue defects treated with flap reconstruction between June 2023 and June 2025.A triangular"kite"-shaped flap was designed along the alar margin on one side of the wound, with the incision modified into an arc shape along the alar groove, and the flap was advanced to repair the defect area. Results All flaps demonstrated complete survival with primary intention healing.Postoperative follow-up spanning up to 3 to 24 months revealed no evidence of flap contracture, structural deformation,or significant scar hypertrophy. Conclusion This flap provides a novel surgical approach for defects of the nasal ala and sur-rounding skin, offering both functional and aesthetic restoration, and is worthy of clinical promotion.
