Abstract:Cartilage tissue engineering technology provides a novel solution for the reconstruction of superficial organs, featuring precise repair, low donor-related injury, and long-term regenerative effects. The improvement of tissue-engineered cartilage technology has always been a central focus in the field in recent years, with significant progress achieved. However, the clinical translation of tissue-engi-neered cartilage induced by mesenchymal stem cells as seed cells still faces challenges.Specifically, the cartilage phenotype exhibits insta-bility after ectopic transplantation, manifested as chondrocyte hypertrophy, matrix mineralization, and cartilage ossification. The authors sum-marized the current potential mechanisms underlying ectopic cartilage ossification, classified and organized the methods for delaying ossifica-tion based on existing technical approaches, reviewed the strategies for enhancing its stability, and provided an outlook on future research.
