Abstract:Autophagy is a process of cellular degradation and recycling, which plays a crucial role in va rious biological functions including hair growth. It is mainly categorized into three types:Macroautophagy,Chaperone Mediated Autophagy, and Microautophagy, which collectively maintain cellular homeostasis through distinct mechanisms.Previous studies have revealed that autophagy participates in hair growth and the process of alopecia by regulating the hair follicle cycle, influencing the activity of hair follicle stem cells, and modulat-ing the hair follicle microenvironment. In recent years, various therapeutic strategies targeting autophagy in hair growth and alopecia treat-ment have been proposed, including drug interventions, nutritional regulation, and physical stimulation. This review summarizes the re-search progress on the role and mechanisms of autophagy in hair growth and alopecia, with the aim of providing insights for future research and clinical applications.
