Clinical efficacy of punch excision combined with electron beam radiotherapy for the treatment of hypertrophic scar

Abstract：Objective To assess clinical efficacy of punch excision combined with electron beam radiation for the treatment of hypertrophic scar.Methods From February 2022 to July 2024,40 patients with hypertrophic scar,including 15 patients who received radiotherapy only as control Group 1,13 patients received punch excision only as control group 2,and 12 patients in experimental group received punch excision before radiotherapy,were collected from Department of Burn and Plastic Surgery,the 980th Hospital of the Joint Logistic Support Force of PLA.In the experimental group,the first pass of radiotherapy was initiated within 24 hours after the punch exci-sion,and the continuous treatment was performed for the next 4 days.Follow up visits were conducted on the 6th and 12th month after the treatment.Scar assessment scale was used to evaluate the result.Data of recurrence and side effects were collected during the treatment.Results All patients had healing by first intention.The total scores of Scar severity at the 12-month follow-up after treatment were signif-icantly lower than those before treatment.The total effective rate 12 months after treatment was 100%,which was higher than in other con-trol group,with significant differences(P<0.05).There were no serious adverse reactions during follow-up.Conclusion Punch excision combined with electron beam radiotherapy for hypertrophic scar treatment had the advantage of simple operation,definite effect and few complications,which could be popularized in clinical application.
