Abstract:Objective To evaluate patient-reported outcomes of three surgical techniques for paranasal base augmentation in secondary nasal deformities associated with unilateral cleft lip. Methods A retrospective analysis was conducted on 35 patients who un-derwent secondary nasal deformity repair at Department of Plastic Surgery,Peking University Third Hospital between January 2017 and December 2022.Three paranasal base augmentation methods were compared:costal cartilage particles, autologous particulate fat,and ex-panded polytetrafluoroethylene(ePTFE)implants.Postoperative satisfaction of patients was assessed using the Cleft-Q nose and nostril scale, and statistical analysis was conducted. Results Thirty-five patients were followed up from 12 to 82 months, with an average of 38.3 months. All patients in three groups were all satisfied with the surgical effects of the nose and nostril.Through the Kruskal-Wallis rank sum test, there was no statistically significant difference in satisfaction among the three groups(P>0.05).Only between the two groups of costal cartilage particles and autologous particulate fat,it was found that the nasal satisfaction was higher in the costal cartilage particles group(P<0.05).Conclusion Using costal cartilage particles, autologous particulate fat,or ePTFE for cleft-side nasal base augmentation can achieve satisfactory outcomes, aiding in the aesthetic repositioning of nasal sub-units.
