Abstract:Objective To investigate the effect of nasal columellar skin shortening method in correcting alar retraction. Methods From January 2022 to July 2024,23 female patients with clinical manifestations of alar retraction underwent nasal columellar skin removal in the operation of structural rhinoplasty with autologous rib cartilage. The degree of alar retraction was measured preopera-tively,intraoperatively before columellar skin shortening, immediately after columellar skin shortening and 6 months postoperatively.Statis-tical analysis was then performed. Results The amount of nasal columellar skin removed during the operation in 23 patients ranged from 0.93 to 1.39 mm,with an average of 1.10 mm.All patients were followed up for 7 to 13 months. At 6 months follow-up,the nasal alar rim retraction improved by(1.54±0.37)mm in the frontal view and by(0.83±0.24)mm in the lateral view compared with preoperative status(P<0.05).When finishing the nasal columellar skin shortening immediately, the improvement was(0.63±0.15)mm in the frontal view and(0.70±0.13)mm in the lateral view than shortening the skin before(P<0.05).Conclusion The nasal columellar skin shortening method is an effective method for the correction of alar retraction.
