Research progress in photodynamic therapy for the treatment of pathological scars

Abstract：Pathological scars are the result of abnormal healing of the skin after injury.It is often accompanied by distressing symptoms such as pain and itching.It causes double trouble to the patient both physically and mentally.Currently,treatment modalities for pathological scars encompass laser therapy,radiation therapy,silicone gel products,drug injection,pressure therapy,cryotherapy and sur-gical treatment.However,many therapies are plagued by issues such as low efficacy,high recurrence rates,prolonged treatment cycles,and significant adverse effects,resulting in poor patient adherence.Photodynamic therapy(PDT)is an emerging method for the treatment of pathological scars and has attracted attention because of its high selectivity,low toxicity and reproducibility.Basic research and clinical re-search have shown great potential for the treatment of pathological scars.This paper reviews the latest research progress on PDT treatment of pathological scars to provide new ideas and directions for in-depth study in this field and to promote the continuous progress of prevention and treatment of pathological scars.
