Research progress on temporomandibular joint changes following combined orthodontic-orthognathic treatment

Abstract：The combination of orthognathic surgery and orthodontic treatment is a practical approach for addressing complex den-tal deformities,optimizing patients'occlusal function and enhancing facial aesthetics.The temporomandibular joint(TMJ),a key component of the masticatory system,is crucial for maintaining oral function and facial aesthetics.Currently,there are differing opinions within the a-cademic community regarding the potential impact of this combination of treatments on the temporomandibular joint.This article analyzes the impact of combined orthodontic and orthognathic treatment on three aspects of the TMJ:joint structural changes,biomechanical changes and functional effects,to provide clinicians with a scientific basis to optimize treatment plans and improve patients'quality of life.
