Abstract:Wound repair is a complex and tightly regulated physiological process that significantly impacts the quality of a patient's recovery. The sequential phases of inflammation, proliferation, and remodeling within the healing process are pivotal in determining the fi-nal outcome of wound healing.Macrophages,as key participants in the inflammatory response, can polarize into two distinct phenotypes,M1 and M2,which are associated with pro-inflammatory and anti-inflammatory roles, respectively. This polarization allows for a dynamic regu-lation of the healing process. This review aims to investigate the role of macrophage polarization in the wound healing process and its poten-tial therapeutic applications for enhancing healing by synthesizing the latest research findings from the literature.
