Abstract:Nontuberculous mycobacteria are environmental organisms associated with a variety of infections. In recent years,non-tuberculous mycobacterial infections have contributed to a gradual increase in morbidity and mortality worldwide.Besides causing pulmonary disease, nontuberculous mycobacteria can also lead to infections at extrapulmonary sites, resulting in severe and widespread clinical syndromes. With the rapid advancement of plastic surgery in our country, the types and volume of cosmetic procedures are increas-ing daily, reflecting a trend of diversification in the plastic surgery market. However, there has also been a rise in extrapulmonary non-tu-berculous mycobacterial infections associated with plastic surgeries or procedures.Diagnosing these extrapulmonary infections is challeng-ing;it requires prolonged combined antibiotic treatment regimens,is prone to relapse post-treatment,often necessitates multiple radiologi-cal and microbiological examinations, and may require other therapeutic interventions. This article reviews the latest advances in the clini-cal symptoms, diagnosis, and treatment of extrapulmonary non-tuberculous mycobacterial diseases in the context of plastic surgery.
