Abstract:Objective To investigate the status quo and related factors of postoperative pain in costal cartilage harvest children with microtia. Methods A convenient sample of 172 costal cartilage harvest children with microtia from the ear reconstruction depart-ment of a Beijing tertiary grade A hospital were investigated with a self-designed questionnaire, and the pain degree at rest and during ac-tivity was assessed by Wong-Baker Faces Pain Rating Scale. Results The incidence of pain at rest was 89.02%and the incidence of moderate to severe pain was 22.48%within 0~96 hours after operation; The incidence of pain during activity was 96.48%and the incidence of moderate to severe pain was 53.20%within 0~96 hours after operation. The mean value of children's pain score during activity was maintained at a high level(more than 6 points)within 6~24 hours after operation. There were significant differences in postoperative pain scores among different educational background of parents, work status of parents, family location, family structure, anesthetics and analgesic pump drugs(P<0.05).The multiple linear regression analysis showed that gender, whether the child is an only child and family structure had significant effects on the postoperative pain scores(P<0.05).Conclusion Postoperative pain in costal cartilage harvest children showed its high incidence and severity.Gender, whether the child is an only child, family structure are the main influencing factors of post-operative pain.
