Application of pedicled skin flap in the repair of facial defect in elderly patients

Abstract:Objective To evaluate the effect of pedicled skin flap in the repair of facial defects in elderly patients.Methods From January 2015 to December 2020,24 elderly patients with tipped flaps for repair of postoperative head and neck defects were retrospectively analyzed,including 22 cases of facial defects,1 case repaired with a V-Y flap,4 cases with a kite flap,1 case with a bilobed flap,and 16 cases with nasolabial sulcus flaps.Other head and neck defects were repaired in 2 cases,including 1 case of gingival cancer repaired by the under-chin island flap and 1 case of gingival cancer repaired by nasolabial sulcus flap.Results All patients had one-stage healing,and at 1-year postoperative follow-up,there was no recurrence of local tumors in 23 cases,and the local facial changes were not obvious,with a high degree of acceptability of the facial appearance,and 1 patient with gingival cancer with nasolabial sulcus repair had a death of local recurrence.Conclusion The application of localized tipped flaps to repair facial defects in elderly patients is a safe and reliable re-pair modality,as well as easy to master and suitable for promotion.
