Abstract:Objective To explore the clinical outcome of the use of free anterolateral thigh perforator (ALTP) flap in the reconstruction of limb soft tissue defects after malignant melanoma radical resection. Methods Twelve patients (8 males,4 females) with limb malignant melanoma underwent radical resection and reconstruction. The soft tissue defects were repaired with free ALTP flaps. The tumor size ranged from 2.5 cm × 2.0 cm to 10.0 cm × 7.0 cm.The ALTP flap area ranged from 7.0 cm × 6.0 cm to 13.0 cm × 8.0 cm.Resuits All flaps survived. The donor site was closed directly and healed primarily. All patients were followed up from 12 to 27 months. The reconstructed limb had a satisfactory appearance and good function. No recurrence was observed during the follow-up period.Only linear scarring was left at the donor site, and the knee joint movement was normal. Conclusion ALTP flap is an ideal choice in the reconstruction of limb soft tissue defects after radical resection of malignant melanoma.
