Abstract:Objective To explore a new surgical method of concha cartilage combined with polytetrafluoroethylene to treat short nose deformity, and to investigate its efficacy. Methods The retrofascial space was fully separated by anopen incision. The cartilage was incised and the connection between cartilage and skin was severed. The prosthesis was carved to fit the individual patients and according to the relevant aesthetic standards. Two pieces of concha cartilage were carved into the appropriate length and shape. One piece was implanted at the appropriate position with a nasal septum cartilage suture.A second piece was used as a nasal columella and nasal alar cartilage sustentaculum, sutured, and fixed at the cmra mediale of the cartilago alaris major. The prosthesis was implanted and fixed with a concha cartilage support structure.A single flap was used to cover the dorsal nasal columella and the surgical incision was sutured with no tension. Results Forty-three patients were followed up for 1 year. The dorsal nasal length increased 4.0 to 9.0 mm,with an average of 5.1 mm.The nasolabial angle was reduced 5 to 15 degrees;9.3 degrees on average.Nose protrusion increased 3.0 to 7.0 mm,with an average of 4.5 mm.All results were satisfactory. Conclusion The modified surgical procedure of concha cartilage combined with e-PTFE can prolong the dorsal nasal length, reduce the nasolabial angle, and increase the tip of the nose. The curative effect is reliable. This method can be used to correct short nose deformity.
