Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of three-dimensional (3D) printing models based on CT data in preoperative diagnosis, operative design and guide plate making for mandibular angle reduction surgery. Methods From January to October 2016,26 patients with mandibular angle hypertrophy deformity were hospitalized. The 3D CT scan data were collected and the maxilla and mandible models were printed by 3D printer. The diagnosis and the osteotomy line was determined through model analysis. The osteotomy line was designed with the model, and a guide plate was made to assist in determining the site and size of the osteotomy. An intraoral incision was made, and the osteotomy of the mandibular angle was completed with the assistance of the guide plate. Results The operation time varied from 120 to 240 minutes, with an average of 160 minutes. All incisions healed primarily. No infection, hematoma,or lip numbness occurred. All patients were satisfied with the postoperative results. Conclusion The 3D printing technique based on CT data facilitated a more accurate completion of the mandibular angle reduction surgery, cnsuring grcatcr patient safety.
