Abstract:Objective To explore surgical depth and range through observation and measurement of the specimen under microscope, using apocrine gland dissection with small incision to treat bromidrosis. Methods Apocrine gland dissection with small incision was applied in 80 cases with bromidrosis.Specimens were collected for 3 purposes:measuring the apoerine gland depth under microscope, observing the correlation between the apocrine gland and hair follicles, and observing whether there is residue from the apoerine glands in the edge of the surgical region. Results The apocrine gland depth of all 80 cases was from 2.184 mm to 4.641 mm.The average depth was (3.154 ± 0.563) mm.The average depth of the apocrine gland in males was (3.114 ± 0.569) mm,while in females,it was (3.191 ± 0.562) mm.There was no significant difference in the depth of the apocrine glands between the males and females (P>0.05).There was no close symbiotic relationship between the hair folhcles and the apocrine gland. When specimens were obtained from the junction of the apocrine glands and the surrounding normal adipose tissues, there was still significant residue from the apocrine glands. When specimens were obtained from 0.5 cm outside the junction, there was almost no residue. Conclusion The reference depth of surgery was from 2.184 to 4.641 mm.The surgical scope can not simply rely on the armpit hairrange, but must extend at least to the junction of the apocrine glands and the surrounding normal adipose tissues. The surgical scope should be extended to the 0.5 cm outside the junction to prevent recurrence.
