Abstract:Objective To explore the efficacy of second-stage breast augmentation after polyacrylamide hydrogel (PAHG) removal. Methods From March 2003 to 2016,60 cases of polyacrylamide hydrogel were removed through the mammaryareola inferior margin approach.Twenty-five patients were assessed for the optimal incision point, and subsequently underwent breast augmentation with silicone prosthesis either in the posterior space of the pectoralis major or the posterior mammary gland space at 6 months after polyacrylamide hydrogel removal. All patients were followed up for 6 to 12 months postoperative. Results The postoperative result was good, and no hematoma, capsular contracture,or infection occurred. The appearance was natural and the area was soft to the touch. The breast morphology was normal, and all patients were satisfied with the results of silica gel breast prosthesis implantation. Conclusion Removing polyacrylamide hydrogel through the mammary areola inferior margin approach and in the second-stage breast augmentation with silicone prosthesis in the posterior space of the pectoralis major or the posterior mammary gland space was feasible. The result was good and should be considered for promotion in clinic.
