Application and exploration of the PBL teaching method in the refresher training of doctors of plastic surgery

Abstract：Objective To explore the application and effect of the PBL (problem based learning) teaching method in the refresher training of doctors of plastic surgery.Methods From 2013 to 2016,20 doctors enrolled in the refresher program at the Department of Plastic Surgery at the Peking University Third Hospital were randomly divided into an experimental group and a control group.Each group contained 10 members.The PBL teaching method was applied in the experimental group and traditional teaching methods were employed in the control group.The effectiveness of the instruction was evaluated by closed book examination and questionnaire survey.Results The questionnaire survey showed that more than 80％ of the doctors in the refresher program thought that the PBL teaching method could improve students' engagement in learning,strengthen the memory of concepts,increase clinical problem analysis and solving,as well as innovativeand clinical thinking.Conclusion The PBL teaching mode was more effective and feasible.
