Psychological intervention for anxious patients undergoing botulinum toxin injection in upper facial wrinkles

Abstract:Objective To explore the effects of psychological intervention to satisfy anxious patients with botulinum toxin injection in upper facial wrinkles.Methods From July 2016 to November 2016,50 anxious female patients who were planning toundergo botulinum toxin injection in Taipei Mythology Clinic were screened out according to the Hamilton Anxiety self-rating Scale.Patients were randomly divided into a psychological intervention group and a control group,according to a random number table,with 25 cases in each group.All subjects underwent surgery according to standard surgical procedures,while the experimental group was given appropriate psychological intervention.All patients were followed up for 2 weeks after the operation.The degree of satisfaction of the subjects was evaluated by the Satisfaction Scale.Results Preoperative anxiety scores of the psychological intervention group and the control group was (19.64 ± 7.94) and (17.64 ±9.66),respectively,showing no significant difference between the two groups (P=0.363).In the psychological intervention group,the patients' satisfaction was 68% (17/25) at 2 weeks postoperative,which was significantly higher than that of the control group (P < 0.05).The anxiety score of the patients in the psychological intervention group was significantly lower than that of the control group (P < 0.05).In the psychological intervention group,the distribution of the degree of anxiety between satisfied and dissatisfied patients also showed significant difference (P < 0.05).Conclusion For plastic surgery patients with anxiety,positive psychological intervention during the operation can significantly improve the postoperative satisfaction of micro-cosmetic surgery patients.
