Abstract:Objective To observe the histological structure and study the cause of epicanthus for clinical surgery. Methods Choose 42 epicanthus patients who need double eyelid surgery with medial canthus opening as the observation group, using transverse incision and longitudinal suture surgical method, observing out of shape of the white membranous tissue of epicanthus during the operation, and get the white membranous tissue for histological examination. Meanwhile, take medial canthal ligament tissue from 44 chronic dacryocystitis pa-tient and 1 trauma patients as the control group. Making pathological by HE staining method in two groups and study the differences. Results In 42 cases of epicanthus, white membranous tissue are connected to the medi-al canthus ligament. The white membranous tissue can be seen on 40 good slicing inside the epicanthus are same as dense connective tissue separate from medial canthal ligament showed by 41 good slicing from 45 cases. They are basically identical on the morphology, both of them are dense connective tissue. Through 6 months to 4 years of observation after surgery, the result is double eyelid line, the angular angle and the skin above and below healing natural, patients were satisfactory. Conclusion White membranous tissues in epicanthus are in the homologous with medial canthal ligament. Transverse incision and longitudinal suture surgical is a simple and effective surgical method.
