Plastic surgical treatment of neurofibroma

Abstract:Objective To study the plastic surgical restorative procedure of giant neurofibroma. Meth-ods Retrospective analysis was carried out in 21 cases of neurofibroma admitted in our department from August 2003 to December 2013. There were solitary neurofibroma in 4 cases and neurofibromatosis in 17 cases, among them, 8 cases of giant neurofibroma were located on head and face, 9 cases of giant neurofibroma on trunk and extremities. Results 4 cases of solitary neurofibromas were excised totally, one was directly sutured and three wounds were repaired by shin graft. 8 cases of giant neurofibroma located on head and face were partly excised, and six wounds were directly sutured, two of them were repaired by expanded flaps. Of nine cases of giant neuro-fibroma which were located on trunk and extremities, five focuses were excised totally and repaired with split-thickness skin grafts harvested from tumor skin. Others were excised partly and directly sutured. All of patients were satisfactory with their contour. 20 patients were followed up from seven months to ten years post-operation, the results showed that one patient died from internal hemorrhage in tumor, recurrence appeared in a case, and the appearance and function were still satisfactory in other cases. Conclusion To giant Neurofibroma, several ways might be made carefully to Handling well the surgical bleeding. Plastic surgical treatment of neurofibroma can yield good results with complete excision and better reconstruction. The reconstructive operation might be the best recovery of the visage and function.
