Abstract:Objective To compare the anatomic difference of micro-structure between the double and non-double eyelid and discuss the mechanism of double-eyelid formaion. Methods The tissue of upper eyelid from normal female adults was investigated and divided into three groups: the group of double eyelid formed primarily, the group of double eyelid formed gradually and non-double eyelid group. They amount to 56 side of upper eyelids, which were made into 72 specimen pieces for examination by scanning electron microscope, 20 specimen pierces for examination optic microscope. Results Among the specimen of three groups an obvious difference was found under scanning electron microscope. In the upper eyelid of the double eyelid group a bundle of fiber of the lavator aponeurosis penetrated through orbicularis muscle end in skin of palpebral sulcus. This structure was not observed in the non-double eyelid group. Ligh microscope observation can not reveal this disparity. Conclusion The double eyelid formation must be having fibrosis-associated structure between skin and lavator aponeurosis.
