Fixation of lateral nasal aponeurosis: a new method for correction of epicanthus
Abstract:Objective Anatomy of mose was studied on cadavers in order to explore a comparative ideal technique for correction of epicanthus. Methods On the basis of nasal anatomic dissection in 7 adult cadavers, a conception of “lateral nasal aponeurosis” was put forward and a new fixation technique for correcting epicanthus was used cliniclly in the following procedures: incision of the epicanthal fold, cantholysis (widening the canthus) and canthoplasty by pulling the new canthus medially and fixing it on the lateral nasal aponeurosis. Results The lateral nasal aponeursis is solid and immovable. A total of 79 patients were operated by this technique and 65 of them were available for 6 to 24 months′ postoperative follow_up with excellent cosmetic results. Conclusion This technique has lesser tissue damage and more favorable postoperative scar formation. It is a simple and reliable surgical approach for correction of epicanthus.
