The study on skin sensitisation by medical polyacrylamide hydrogel (Amazingel)
Abstract:Objective To assess the potential of medical polyacrylamide hydrogel (Amazingel) under test in producing skin sensitization. Methods We select the maximization method (Magnusso & Kligman). The maximization test is regarded as the most sensitive and preferred method, 0.9% physiological saline, 5% formaldehyde solution and the extraction of material were injected respectively into dermis of guinea-pigs, on 17th days after completion of topical induction phase, challenge all the test and control animals with the extract, and observe the erythema or oedema appearance of the challenge skin sites at 1h, 24h and 48h, and calculate sensitization rate. Results The sensitization rate of medical Amazingel is 0. Conclusion Amazingel does not have the potential of skin sensitization.
