Treatment of limb lymphoedema with liposuction
Abstract:Objective To introduce our experience of using liposuction to treat lymphoedema. Methods 35 patients with lymphoedema were treated using liposuction. Through various small incisions, edematous and hypertrophic fat tissue was removed. Limb compression with a compression garment was instituted immediately after operation. Results The fellow-up was relatively short, only 3~6 months. There were no major complications. Substantial limb volume reduction was archived in all cases. The patients were benefited from both functional and cosmetic aspects. Conclusion Liposuction is safe and effective for reducing the limb edema. Edematous and hypertrophic fat tissue can be removed with excellent clinical outcome, but long follow-up is needed.
