Abstract:In order to study the effect of Ce element on the microstructures and mechanical properties of Al-15%Mg2Si composite, the Al-15%Mg2Si composite was prepared with in-situ formation technology, and the Ce element with different mass fractions was added to refine and modify the composite. In addition, the microstructures were observed with scanning electron microscope ( SEM) , and the mechanical properties were tested with the Brinell hardness and hydraulic universal testers. The results show that after adding Ce element, the Mg2Si phase with the massive and granular morphologies exists in the Al matrix. With increasing the mass fraction of Ce element, the primary Mg2Si phase gets refined, and the mechanical properties of the composite firstly increase and then decrease. When the mass fraction of Ce element is 0. 6%, the refinement effect of primary Mg2Si phase is best and the mechanical properties of the composite are optimal.
