Abstract:In order to study the failure mechanism of metal Ni in molten zinc, the pure metal Ni and Ni coating samples prepared by plasma spraying were respectively immersed in 530℃ liquid zinc for different time, and then the metallurgical samples were prepared. The microstructural morphologies and phase constitute of corrosion layer were observed with scanning electron microscope (SEM)and energy dispersive spectrometer(EDS), and the various phases formed in the corrosion layer were detected by X ray diffractometer(XRD).The results show that through the reaction diffusion, different compounds containing Ni and Zn form with the layer shape in the corrosion layer. And thus, the metal Ni is gradually consumed, which ultimately leads to its failure. In addition, the measured corrosion rate of pure metal Ni in liquid zinc is 0.00604g/(cm2·h).
