Abstract:In order to improve the bonding properties between carbon fiber and resin matrix, the electropolymerization modification of carbon fiber was performed through adopting the cyclic voltammetry and taking the acrylic acid as the polymeric monomer. The microstructure change on the surface of carbon fiber before and after the modification was studied with Fourier infrared (FT-IR)spectrometer and scanning electron microscope (SEM),and the mechanical properties of the composite were tested with the computer servo controlled material testing machine. The results indicate that when the concentration of acrylic acid is 0.3 mol/L and the number of cycles is 10 times, the optimum modification effect for the carbon fiber is obtained. The characteristic absorption peak of —OH appears near 2 680 cm -1 in FT-IR spectra of modified carbon fiber. The interlaminar shear strength (ILSS ) of composite increases from 10.50 MPa to 23.44 MPa,and the enhanced amplitude is 123.21%.A disc-like polymer layer of acrylic acid forms on the surface of modified carbon fiber, and closely combines with the epoxy resin matrix.
